Glossary of Terms - Broadhead Shoot

 

Here are some terms we used in the test; we want to try to give you the best description of what happened.

The ballistic gel - 10% ballistics gel (non-FBI standard
compound), Deer shoulder and rib portions - 2 sections separated 10" -
12" from outside to outside surfaces.  Heavy paper to measure mechanical
deployment in simulated cavity.

Deflection - when the arrow hit the bone did it move to the left, right, up or down bouncing off the bone

No deflection - arrow went straight threw, bone didn't affect the flight of the arrow

Minor deflection - arrow moved to the left or right less than a 22 degree angle

Major deflection - arrow moved to the left or right more than a 22 degree angle

Pass through - the broadhead went completely through both basaltic gels

Damage terms:
- Rolled- tip or blade bent around

- No damage- no visible damage was done to the broadhead, slight dulling of the blades

- Min. - Minimum damage, lightly damaged, blades or tips had little damage, no bent blades and were dulled, little visible damage

- Moderate - dulled blades, visible chipping, not bent or rolled tip, not broken or missing parts

- Major - missing or broken pieces, tips or blades rolled, broadhead badly damaged or destroyed.
