Finding My Arrow

Written By: Robin Althhaver - Aug• 24•16

I was about 6 years old when I first heard the word “hunting”.  My dad was going hunting with a group of men from our church.  I only remember it because it was the first time I had ever heard my parents argue. (more…)

TBT Post – First Ice

Written By: Up North Journal Blogs - Dec• 03•15

Hello All  – Here is a Throw Back blog from 2011.  Hope you enjoy!!

It is that time of year where most of the hunting seasons are coming to an end and the weather is starting to get cold.  Christmas was only a week ago and it has been freezing cold for the past week and a half so the hopes of the lakes and rivers making good ice are good.  So that means ICE FISHING season is here.  I look forward to this just as much as opening day of duck season.

While I was walking the through the ATA on the final day, I came across booth #2441 Rough Ridge LLC.

They are a company out of Hamburg Pennsylvania. I had the pleasure of talking with Tim and Rachel Billet and going over their variety of seeds and Attractants and their Rack Snack Mineral. They had a nice slideshow of various bucks enjoying it

I like what I saw!

I just wanted to give you a heads up about this company. They offer their Rack Snack Deer Minerals and different types of seed blends to choose from. They also offer a specialized seed blend to help bring in the Turkeys! (more…)

Getting the Turkey Itch!

Written By: Michael B. Adams - Jan• 19•15

For about the last two or three weeks I’ve been waking up every morning to a flock of turkeys parading around the field behind my house I know with the intent of teasing me!  Every morning I see the toms flapping their wings and ruffling their feathers as the puff up a little to make me sit by the window and wish it was spring.  All I can do is sit with my cup of coffee thinking of how long is it ’til turkey season? Written By: Michael B. Adams - Jan• 13•15

As a year comes to a close I always like to reflect back on accomplishments as well as events that didn’t go so well when it comes to my hunting and outdoor adventures, 2014 was no different. If you haven’t been following what has been going on in my life for the past two years you know that due to two major tragedies in my life I haven’t hit the woods since May of 2013. 2014 I was bound and determined to change that, it took longer than I had anticipated!

How To Get Your Hunting Gear To Quit Smoking

Written By: Michael B. Adams - Mar• 03•14

As most of you know by now, I suffered a house fire back in October of last year.  It wasn’t so much the fire that did most of the damage as it was the smoke that got to everything I own.  Yes that means all of my hunting gear!  Fortunately one of our Up North Journal Sponsors came to the rescue!  It wasn’t long after the fire that I got a call from Dead Down Wind when they heard what had happened, with that call came information and Dead Down Wind laundry detergent.  What you will find in this article is the process that I went through to clean my favorite hunting clothing. Not The Season I Expected!

Written By: Michael B. Adams - Feb• 13•14

Well it has definitely been a while since I have communicated to all of you loyal Up North Journal followers!  It hasn’t been because I didn’t want to talk to you that is for sure.  It has come with much difficulty that I have reached this point in time that I am now ready to reach out to our audience and explain what has transpired to me in the last 9 months of my life.  As most of you all know we have suspended our podcasts and vidcasts until further notice and our blog site has been non-existant for quite some time now.  This post is what I’m calling the Up North Journal Phoenix, literally!  We are taking the first steps of rising out of the ashes to try and start a rebirth of what and who we are as a group of outdoorsmen and move forward to once again provide content for you to enjoy.  This process will by no means be at a lightning quick pace by any means!  So be patient with us and I will explain along the way!
