We at the Up North Journal are not scientists or engineers (even though Kevin might think he is) we are hunters that just want to see how things tick, you know when you were a kid and tore things apart, well we never outgrew that. We have families and hold down jobs just like you. We don't "do" lunch at work, we bring ours. Most tests that the manufactures conduct show the positives of their product, we want to have the broadheads go through the same tests and have you judge them for yourself. We didn’t tune any broadhead to anything, we took it out of the package, weighted and micrometered it and shot it, just like some hunters do. We are fortunate to have an indoor archery range, a paper tuner and use of a Hooter Shooter to perform these tests as controlled as we can without our brains hurting. We wanted to perform a test from an everyday hunter perspective and information you can understand and use. We want to thank all the companies that volunteered their product to test. Click on the company's logo to see how they faired in our blue collar broadhead torture test. We tested all the broadheads with the same arrow. We hope this can help you out as much as we enjoyed doing this for you. If you would like more information about the broadhead manufacture just click on the logo in the review form page, it will take you to their website. Test Equipment Used In The 2009 UNJ Broadhead Test
Broadhead Quartering Away Test (Expandables Only) This test is to see if expandables will deploy at a 1/4ing away shot. A lot of hunters have a fear or worry that an expandable broadhead doesn't deploy if a hunter is presented with a quartering away shot. We want to see if this is true or not. The test was conducted with a piece of cardboard being shot at with an expandable broadhead at 15 yards away into cardboard then into paper at a 45 degree angle. The cardboard and paper will be separated by the width of a standard 2X4. We want to see if and when the expandable is deployed. Click the logo to see how they faired. |
